Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP), Nepal

Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP) ,Nepal is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 1978 by Dr. Lindsay Alan Cheyne of New Zealand. The main objective of UCEP is to uplift the living conditions of underprivileged, disadvantaged and working children by providing access to education and job oriented technical and vocational training. Initially, it was established as an extension of UCEP-Bangladesh under the umbrella organization UCEP-International. In 1992 UCEP Nepal received the status of independent and autonomous organization following formal registration at District Administration Office, Bhaktapur under the Institution Registration Act 2034. It is also affiliated to Social Welfare Council of the government of Nepal, which is mandatory for all NGOs.

UCEP-Nepal is dedicated in protecting and promoting the rights of children. We firmly believe that all children and youths, especially the underprivileged and disadvantaged, must have access to equal opportunities for education and skill training so that the graduate youth can be gainfully employed in self-wages employment and lead an independent and dignified life.

UCEP-Nepal head office is situated at Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, where its technical school with state-of-the-art workshops and other facilities are offering vocational training services. UCEP-Nepal is also entrusted by the government to take physical custody of delinquent teenagers below the age of eighteen who are in conflict with law. Currently, UCEP Nepal is managing four Juvenile Correction Home in Bhaktapur, Kaski, Morang and Banke district for Nepal Government. All inmates in correctional homes have free access to formal education and vocational training. We have been working with various bilateral, multilateral, private, government, NGO and other various organizations to attain our goals.

As one of the pioneering NGOs, UCEP-Nepal has advanced to its current position by overcoming numerous challenges and building strong partnerships with both national and international organizations across various thematic sectors. The organization has been honored with several prestigious awards in recognition of its expertise in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), particularly in projects focused on children and youth.

UCEP Nepal is relentlessly working hard to improve the socio-economic status of underprivileged youth across the country.
